7.3 what do you think?
It seems that when i look in this forum, that there are quite a lot of problems with 7.3 release!
Would that be that (in my case) we operate an older printer (SeikoColorpainter64s) perhaps?
We have ordered the new Seiko 74s, so when it arrive's i try 7.3 again and see what happens
Or should i wait for 7.4?

Regards,

Henry

I am running 7.3 with no problems. I had one problem with install, but just tried again and it worked fine. Other than that, no downsides. That being said, I see no upsides either, as of yet.

I didn't go to 7.2 as there seemed to be problems with it & I reverted back to 7.1.0.4

Have enough problems been ironed out now to jump to 7.3?

& if so will I need to upgrade to 7.2 first?

7.3 what do you think?
we got server.exe errors in 7.3 and switched back to 7.2
I think the problem sits in the mimaki drivers for us. When we print with only the HP's there is no problem.

7.3 what do you think?
I've had problems with every version, 7.0, 7.1 and 7.3. I was told to move over to 7.1 by Onyx from 7.06, and was told I had to download new printer files from their website, but when I installed them, the ink settings were wrong - it was UCK or something, and it had ONLY ONE media profile. I was told to download medias from the website, but there were none. I was told that I couldn't use the old printer install files, but then called back the next day and a different person told me they would work.

Ultimately Onyx has cost me far more money than it's saved me. It crashes, the support answers are wrong or inconsistent, large prints crash at the end, and I've reinstalled it more times than any software I can remember, ever. Now they want a new support contract to access their support, but I'm thinking maybe I should put that money into a new RIP.

Stick with what works for you. Right now Onyx seems broken. Sorry if this seems like a rant, but honestly, the move to 7.1 was a joke and the support information so inconsistent and wrong that I can't imagine giving them another dime of my money for what's obviously half baked and broken.

No need to apologize. You're not the only one with these same experiences and frustrations unfortunately. Support has always seemed to be the biggest complaint people have had with Onyx over the years. This was even before the 7.0 release, and after that it just seemed to get worse. This is one of the main reasons I started this site.

I do know that the 7.0 release was rushed internally due to pressure from the powers that be (so I've heard) and in my opinion was not ready for full release. Each subsequent update has been an attempt to fix all the issues stemming from the initial 7.0 release (imho).

They are getting closer and closer to stability, and even more so with the 7.3.2 alpha that is in testing right now. However, I'm only experiencing that build with my setup, I have no idea how it's working in others as every printer driver brings with it different challenges and problems.

@ScottyDoo

That begs the question to be asked: at what point does Onyx pull the plug on updates before 8.0 comes out furthering the customer outrage at Onyx and their paid support options?

That is an excellent question indeed. I am not privy to the development specifics on v8.0 just yet so I have no idea what a time frame is on testing and release. I know they're in planning and having a lot of internal discussions, but I don't know if it's even in active development or anything beyond that yet.

I think I'll ask your question though and see what response it generates =)

7.3 what do you think?
I just went back to 7.2. Didn't go back actually, as much as I just didn't bother going up to 7.3. I had to reinstall, and then to upgrade to 7.3 from 7.2 would require a complete clean reinstall, which frankly I just don't have time for. Really, I bought this to save me time, and if I have to take half a day to uninstall 7.2, go do registry edits, reboot, reinstall, re-add all my hot folders etc... well, then it's not saving me time. I'll stick with 7.2 for now unless something is so broken i can't live with it.

7.3 what do you think?
Just got our brandnew Seiko 74s.
While we still operate 7.2 version i thought now is the right time to upgrade to version 7.3
Guess what!!, still the same problem occurs!!
Jobs larger then 4,5x2 meters with tiles are not printing, only the registration marks but again no image?!
There seems to be a problem when ripping a file, it is visibly smaller in filesize (mb) than expected!
Is there some kind of way to check the limitation perhaps?
Anyone with a good idea?

Thanks

Henry

RE: 7.3 what do you think?
So, just for the record, I have 7.3.057 running well now. I had some issues with my spectrometer and media manager, but Onyx was kind enough to help me through those, and now it's all running smoothly. Color looks good, and I'm running it on a dual quad core print server with 8GB of RAM, so it's all pretty happy. Only down side is Vista. Seriously, Vista gets low scores, Onyx is doing well.

You have to be registered as an official beta tester in order to have access to the releases.

Here is some information regarding that.

Onyfgfx.net FAQ Wrote:Q:What is the process to become an ONYX Beta Tester?

A: The following steps walk you through the registration process:
1. Click Register.
2. Complete Registration Form.
3. Confirm Email.
4. ONYX verifies your information - key number, product version, etc.
5. ONYX authorizes your beta status.

Q: What are the requirements to be an ONYX beta tester?

A: You must meet the following requirements to become a beta tester and maintain your tester status:
  • Be running the latest version of the software - the most recent version of the software can be found at http://www.onyxgfx.net
  • Provide feedback or opt out of each beta cycle to maintain your tester status.
Note: By registering as a beta tester, you authorize ONYX Graphics to contact you via email regarding available beta programs and drivers on this site.

RE: 7.3 what do you think?
A lot of this feedback in this tread is fairly negative, but I must say we've had no trouble at all with 7.3.0.
Settings and configurations are a little convoluted compared to other packages, but we find 7.3.0 to be very stable. Of course we would like to see more speed..(64bit version?).

RE: 7.3 what do you think?
@imagebox - I think part of the problem for Onyx is that there are just so many variables that affect everyone's different situations and experiences. With so many different printers out there you're bound to have some that don't communicate and play as nice together as others. My overall experience with 7.3 is fine.

My biggest headaches are all ColorSpan related, and given my experience with ColorSpan over the years, even pre-Onyx, I have no issue saying that their stupid videonet protocol is the biggest culprit when it comes to nearly all of my issues. Hardly any of it has truly been the complete fault of Onyx. They have had to jump through a number of hoops to get ColorSpan devices to communicate properly.

As I said via PM, you will just have to be patient and wait for Onyx to respond. We are not allowed to share the beta download with anyone per our agreement. Everything at this point is in the hands of Onyx, so please just be patient and wait for them to respond.
