I guess the title says it all.
But when creating new media it would be cool if media manager automatically would choose the ink restriction based on the reading in the linearisation print. ( maybe based on some custom settings e.i. euroscale or swop target densities ). Other RIPs already has this. Does X100 ring a bell anywhere??? |

This is the codename for the new version of the Onyx RIP. http://onyxtalk.com/thread-breaking-news-onyx-x10 As far as the topic of your message. That would be nice indeed. What other RIPs do this right now? I've only used a couple other RIPs, but neither had that feature. Scott Manwaring / Administrator OnyxTalk.com - Global Support Community |

Hi Scott
Maybe it is X10 and I was misinformed. This source is talking about Java based platform independent Onyx ( sounds to good to be true ) Caldera is making inkrestrictions based on the linearisation print. No user settings though, that is nothing but wishfull thinking. |

Hi Scott
I guess you're right maybe his is not very reliable. But at least he got the X right. I didn't know that either. |

RE: Automatic inkrestriction based on linearisation.
I would think that the printer would need a built in spectro, like the z6100. Otherwise, you'd have varying results based on how long you let it sit to dry, how far away your spectro is from your printer, what the humidity is in the room, etc....?
I don't see how this is even possible. I am all for taking out the human element, but I just don't see it being possible here. |

There are two aspects to ink restrictions. Setting the maximum amount of ink, and defining the ink separation between light and dark inks. In setting the maximum amount of ink you may end up with puddling (which cannot easily be addressed using a color device) Some user interaction may be involved. However for one color combination puddling is not generally a serious concern. However there is concern over using more ink than is needed (saving on cost). For this measurement based ink restrictions makes sense. Hint - good things are afoot in X10. ![]() Max |
