Grrrr... this is not good. We recently started leasing (yes... leasing) a crazy dual quad core computer as our RIP station. Planning on upgrading to ProductionHouse from PosterShop... and the one thing I didn't think to check, just took for granted, was that our damned printer would run on the machine. MadCry

RE: driver for HP designjet 9000
Hi there!

The 9000s is NOT going to work under Windows 7. Simply because HP is not going to write an USB driver for it that works with Windows 7 (at least: that is what I heard from a guy, wearing a hat, long dark jacket, which I met at the parking :-)).

Unfortunately there is not so much ONYX can do about this since their drivers communicate to the USB driver component HP provides.

The solution?
Get yourself a 'print queue only key', install that one on XP, connect your HP9000s and use your Win7, 64-bit, X10 brute force to RIP files and submit the data to the print queue by setting up Print Forwarding as a port for you HP9000s.

Ciao!
Marco

Interesting... Would I need to run two boxes? I guess I would... a partition wouldn't really be effective. I wonder if I could use a remote desktop...

On another note, my goto tech guy here at the shop says that he may be able to get the whole thing going with a "generic HP USB driver"...

Yes you will need two boxes, since you can't run Win 7 and Win XP at the same time on 1 box, in case you can.....please let me know how ;-). I am kidding of course.

I doubt if it will work with a Generic HP USB driver, since there is module in this printer that identifies the printer to Windows. This is crucial for ONYX, since their driver communicates with the HP USB driver. The components used in the 9000s are completely different from ANY USB printer HP ever made. This is because we're technically speaking about a Seiko ColorPainter 64S which was a SCSI printer and the USB port is tailor made piece for this printer only.

Got this to work. ONYX gave us a new prntinst file and we have to install some sort of "Echo User" usb driver... Not sure how it all works, but it does.

That is great news. Where did you get the Echo USB driver from?

My guess would be that this is where they had him download the file (unless they attached it and sent directly to him).

Yes. The second file down is the one that we have. We also got a new prninst file from them. I had to install the new prninst, then load the prninst file that I had made from my old system (with media and quicksets) on top of it (making sure to only update media, not the driver).
