They're working on another small update at the moment that should be out soon, though I'm not sure of all that's included at the moment, I believe it may be related to specific devices. Will find out.

How is 7.1 working for you?
Looks pretty good so far but I got a major problem with my Soljet SJ-745EX
It won't print at 1440x720, only 720. A real bitch cos theres no rollback with this. Now I have to get some working profiles for current media in 6.5 and use it for all my soljet work. I emailed my dealer and Onyx support, hopefully will have a fix soon. |

We're testing a 7.1.1 release as well, I'll check the notes to see if there is any mention of that printer and any specific info.

That's because the release I'm talking about is in testing, it's not released yet.

How is 7.1 working for you?
Onyx 7.1 is not working on our JV3 in six color set up. We have resolution issues with onyx at all settings and are not happy with anything we print. Dot patterns to loose, 720x720 looks more like 100x100. Does anyone have a similar problem with Onyx 7.1.0.40 and a Mimaki JV3 with six color inks? We are fairly high end shop for our area and print on many types of media. Have seen better results from the Mimaki rip. Will be testing Wasatch Monday, but would prefer a fix with Onyx.

How is 7.1 working for you?
We have issues with PMS colors that overlay a black. We have to take our pdf and break apart each part so that its a single layer of color within the file, or .tif it. But with a .tif we cant color match. I was told by the FastSigns Techs that a patch to resolve this would be out in a few weeks but that was a month ago. Im just curious as to when the patch is coming?

As far as the patch, we were testing a 7.1.1 update and they have released it to their channel I believe, but not publicly. They needed to fix a few specific things for some partners. However, they are still working and will release a public update to 7.1.2, but I will have to confirm the release date on that. We haven't even begun alpha/beta testing on any builds. I'll let you know. I'll also look through the notes on the 7.1.1 update and see if there's anything in reference to your issues. If there is then I can see if support will contact you with the update. Scott Manwaring / Administrator OnyxTalk.com - Global Support Community |

How is 7.1 working for you?
Not using 7.1, still using 7.0.6!
Seems the old media we had on 5.6.1 for the mimaki does not like 7.1 No problems (the occasional server crash) in 7.0.6 but upon installing 7.1 with the same media the server or some part of the software - rip etc. crashes all the time. I really mean all the time! It seems it doesn't matter which button I press it will crash.. *following is copied from emails to onyx* If I send an image to the rip, preflight it & then rip it to prepare for printing.. just as it finishes ripping (you see it get to 100% complete), it goes to change from a ripping file to a wait to print file & before it changes it crashes the server. A box comes up & says ?Server Executable encountered a problem & needed to close? etc. it also crashes when dropping images into a hot folder on a printer which just ripped an image with no problems. *Onyx reply* Please verify the build that you are running. Where it says appver 7.1.0.36, that sounds like a Beta build and not the released 7.1.0.40. Also, check the available free space on all local hard drives. *My reply* If I go to help > about production house.. it says the version is 7.1.0.40 The actual files are as follows Postershop.exe is ver 7.1.0.36 Jawsnt.exe is ver 7.1.0.5 Jawsdll.dll is ver 7.1.0.38 Preflight.exe is ver 7.1.0.18 Versioninfo.dll is ver 7.1.0.40 *Onyx reply* Please still verify the amount of free space on any local drives. Also, if you have any antivirus software installed, let's try (temporarily) removing it and then processing these same files. *My reply* This morning I tried rebuilding the PPD?s again with antivirus ?live? detection turned off ? upon reactivating the printers, when I entered the port settings ? this time they all initialized with no problems. I then ran a quick test to see if the rip was now working correctly.. I dropped a small .jpg onto the hot folder of each printer and the server crashed again. I went through the printers trying this one at a time & worked out that it was only the Mimaki JV3 160 that was causing the server to crash.. this printer install file had been loaded from the backup I had made before the 7.1 install. I uninstalled & re-installed using the install file from your ftp.. re-ran the test I had done before & this time it worked.. I changed all the quickset settings to what they were before & made sure everything in the configure printer dialogue was as it had been. Rip worked fine ? no problems at all.. & did seem to work a lot quicker with anti-virus turned off. Having got the rip to work I now went to import the media settings we have always used ? 5.6.1 through to 7.0.6 ? with no problem. I first tried by opening the backup I had made through the printer install dialogue.. nothing came up I tried through Media Manager - & I got a message something along the lines of, ?this file does not contain media for this printer? I managed to install some that our paper supplier gave us ? but the ones we have been using would not install at all. We do A LOT of repeat work.. & mostly VERY LARGE orders for an installation company.. all their work is archived in the rip que & set to a media which I now cant use.. & not having profiled any media yet.. we are completely stuffed! I decided as we really need the media more than 7.1, I would load autoupdate & uninstall the last update.. I thought taking me back to 7.0.6.. but that has not happened.. Auto update said there was an error & if it persists to restart.. so I did that & tried again & it wouldn?t work. I now can?t load any of the apps for 7.1, the error message says ?The procedure entry point ??0wxString@@QAE@PBGAAVwxMBConv@@I@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library wxbase26_vc_onyx.dll? Tommoro will now be spent deleting the onyx folder again ? as I bet that the uninstall app will now not work either.. & reinstalling everything.. but only up to version 7.0.6. *Onyx reply* To import you profile go to configure printer>Media Tab>Import. Media manager has issues with importing media an we are working on fixing this however rip queue will import and export profile without issues. Please use this method to load your profiles. Also do not run auto update with 7.1 as there is not a direct upgrade without the full program install it will not rollback to 706. *My reply* Does that mean that once 7.1 is installed there is no way to ONLY uninstall that version & roll back to 7.0.6. As there is no uninstall option in the 7.1 update .exe file & presumably clicking uninstall from the Production House 7 start menu folder, would uninstall the whole software? If that is the case I?ll stick with 7.0.6 for the time being until all the bugs are ironed out, or until it is possible to upgrade to 7.1.x through Autoupdate & have some way of rolling back easily if there is a problem. *Onyx Reply* No. There is no way to just uninstall 7.1 update. 7.1 has too many significant changes to be able to use AutoUpdate. As a result the full install file needs to be downloaded from www.onyxgfx.net and then installed, using an upgrade/repair method. You'll have to completely uninstall Onyx, then reinstall with version 7.0.6. If the only problem you are having is importing via Media Manager, I do not think that is major enough to affect you to move up to 7.1. This problem also existed in 7.0.6. It can work sometimes. In either version, loading media via the Configure Printer option in the Rip Queue, works just fine. Upgrading to 7.1 is still your decision and we will support you in version 7.0.6 or 7.1. Also if I am reading your previous comments correctly, you are trying to import medias from 5.6 to version 7? This is not possible. The only way to get medias from 5.6 to 7 is to first import them into version 6.5, then re-exporting them. After this is done, importing them into 7 is not a problem. There have been some big differences, that going directly from 5.6 to 7 is not possible. ***** Until I have found media for all our printers that give us decent results - meaning I can ditch the old ones, I'll stick with 7.0.6. to save a lot of hasle! I have tried to profile some media - but with no training & not knowing what to look for - my attempts failed. Chris. |

How is 7.1 working for you?
""I have tried to profile some media - but with no training & not knowing what to look for - my attempts failed.""
Learning to profile is definately worth the time and effort to learn. Its a bit intimadating to begin, but once you dive in its not so bad. There are some good information in the printingdigital.net forums. I am fortunate enough to work in a company that is willing to spend whatever it takes to get good colour. I've spent time at the Onyx facility in Utah, as well as X-rite's facility in Michigan and I would recommend both. |

M.A.C. Wrote:""I have tried to profile some media - but with no training & not knowing what to look for - my attempts failed.""Thanks M.A.C. - have signed up to that forum ![]() Unfortunately my boss is not the same.. they're not purse strings, more padlocked security chains. His idea in the past has been to work out a base correction for the printer/media we have & then use that every time. I'm sure we both know there is a fatal flaw in his logic! I think the chances of my boss sending me to the States to get trained is about Nill - won't even get an engineer in to fit a new head to the mimaki - "we'll do it ourselves & save some money" That came back to haunt him when I damaged 2 new heads trying to do just that! Im going to read through the posts made by eye4clr on that forum as he seems to know what he's on about & I'll see if I cant knock up a decent profile. How long should I leave a print to dry before profiling? 10 mins / 30 mins? |

7.1 has been problematic to say the least, I should go back to 7.0.0.6, so much easier on so many accounts.
