Ink Calculations
I am still using the 7.0 (i know!) whenever I check the "calculate ink use" the rip crashes at the very end of processing the job.

Does this function work for anyone out there?>?

Remind me which printer you're using?

Hint: Under your profile there is a section to add your Onyx version and printer info.

OK, I updated the signature line, but didn't see a spot just for Onyx & the printer./

Well whattya know. There's a bug. That's why you can't see it...it's not there.

Ink Calculations
I can't get my ink calulations to work it always says not configured and this message comes up when I try to check the ink levels

"Querying printer for update...
Error Message : Error before start of communication, port designation, etc."

I have the ip address set correctly as well as using port 9100

I just figured out that the rip can't do ink calculations with "contone" but that was in version 7.1. So i'm sure it hasn't changed for 7.2...???

Epson 11880/10000Arc.
Production House 7.2

I am also having a similar issue, I cannot properly configure ink calculations to work. Any tips on this?

Glad to know it's not just me. I've configured it a million times with my two Epson 9800s, and it always says NOT CONFIGURED. I've never been able to make it work. Sounds like I'm not alone. I'm currently on 7.1

BTW, does anybody really have the ink calculation working? I've set this millions of times, but when I review a job, it never actually calculates the ink usage. Does this really work for anyone?

Did you guys select "Calculate Ink Usage" in "Print Setup..." > "Output" tab in Preflight?

I've set it up in the advanced tab in setting up hot folders. I've also done it in pre-flight, but nothing. I wonder if that's a production house vs. postershop issue, but it shouldn't be. At any rate, still, I've never gotten it working right.

I've just noticed that you guys use Contone mode. Onyx cannot calculate ink vol in contone mode because it doesn't know how many ink dots the printer puts on media. Printing in contone is more like sending tiff file to the printer, the printer then convert that to halftone dots using printer's own engine.

You might misunderstand that Onyx reads ink volume from the printer. That's not the case.
Onyx actually "counts" dot after ripping the file. Try printing in halftone mode and see how it goes.

Another tricky part is how to get the compensation factor right...
