Onyx - PDF/X and input profiles
Hi All,
Several updates of Onyx ago I got so fed up with PDF files being interpretted incorrectly by the RIP I introduced a preflight to preflight. It was meant as a work around until I gained a better understanding of what Onyx was doing to the pdf's as I felt sure it was operator ignorance causing the problems. Customers PDF files are opened in Acrobat, Preflighted to /x1a standard, then the x1a is processed by the RIP. Problems in the PDF's are caught by Acrobat preflight and rectified. The x1a has a single specific profile specified, so all PDF's that reach the RIP are an identical "flavour", the same input profile is applied, and production is surprise free and colour accurate. However, it dawns on my that 12 months on, we're still preflighting in this way. We're manually doing part of the RIP's job because we couldn't make it do what it's supposed to do! Now I'm reading how 7.3.2 handles transparencies and spots from pdf/x4 and it's time to get rid of my workaround and get that time back for sensible pasttimes like drinking and well, err, more drinking! Here's what I'm sure is a simple question - that I can't find an answer to. Can you help? If I have a PDF/X4 (which include specified ICC Profiles) and I open it in Onyx - what does Onyx do with the file re: profiles? Does it automatically assign the correct input profile(s) or do I manually need to apply the input profiles? Thanks in advance. Craig |

RE: Onyx - PDF/X and input profiles
This thread may answer some of your questions. It goes kind of off topic in the middle, but comes back around to the profile question. (The off topic stuff does cover transparency issues I believe...)
