Rip suggestions
Before I start.. I'm STILL using 7.1.0.4 of production house.. so if some of the requests are available in the latest release, please let me know & I will upgrade imeadiately!
![]() suggestions 1. Option to print the settings for the applied filter in the Print label - not just the filter name.. i.e. C-2 M-5 Y0 K-2, Contrast +5, Brightness +32 etc. This will make it a lot easier when doing test prints, to see exactly what corrections were made - if more than 1 test is needed. This will make printing the name of the profile redundant I think.. but much more useful! 2. Printing gutter to include light inks - not just CMYK (whatever the ink setup is for the media - it should print those colours.) 3. an easier to understand colour profile workflow / system.. that adheres to the laws of profiles as per any other software on the market which does the same. i.e. when the input profiles are set correctly in preflight, I should not get a MUCH better print when I switch the profiles off. at the moment it appears that when input profiles are applied, they restrict the colours in the image to that profile. This means when printing spot colours.. although media manager say I can print pantone XYZ with a 0.0 DE match.. when the input profiles are applied in preflight, it resticts the colours to say, euroscale coated, & changes the output so that I can't get within 10.0 DE of the same pantone. 4. Some/better abilty to match the colours printed from another printer... preferably to include printers that are not necessarily in the list of Onyx compatible machines. (I mean match the colours printed on a printer that is not in the list.. using a printer that is in the list.) 5. get rid of the 'dice' system to enable the user not to have to throw a 6 before the rip starts behaving itself & acting as it should. 5.b. make the rip more concise - idiot proof it please ![]() I'm sure theres something I'm forgeting.. I'll add that later ![]() Chris. |

Excellent ideas/comments. I'm going to go through your post in more detail when I get a bit more time and give feedback where I can, and will ask for comments from Onyx on other areas.
Either way, this is all great info as they are still heavy into planning v8, though I don't know any specifics yet. Anything we can throw their way as far as feature ideas, fixes, whatever...they're listening. Scott Manwaring / Administrator OnyxTalk.com - Global Support Community |

Rip suggestions
I remembered
![]() 6. custom locations for crop/registration marks/labels. for example.. when we produce an outdoor vinyl(pvc) banner.. we fold 40mm of material.. on top of the final banner size, around each side, to give rigidity & double the thickness of material to eyelet through. Currently I have been opening customers images in PS7 & manually adding the extra each side as necessary.. but I have recently realised that this can DRAMATICALLY alter the colours in the document & cause problems with colour matching. With banners that have a white background, the extra 40mm each side can be added in the rip using the 'crop outside page' option. But this option is only available when the original is a postscript file (pdf / eps). I'd like to be able to take the customers original direct into the rip, size it as normal.. but specify that I want the crop marks etc. to be 40mm top/bottom/left/right - outside of the final marqee size - so if the image has crops on it, but only say 25mm each side.. you can set the marqee box to the image crops.. & then have the print crops 40mm outside of that.. if you see what I mean. 6b. I conjunction with the above.. I'd love the option to repeat the edge pixels into the designated outside crop marks. i.e. if it is a banner with a yellow background & is 900 x 3000mm finished size... add the 40mm wrap onto each side (980 x 3080mm) & instead of the extra 40mm each side being paper white.. (as it is with 'crop outside page') - repeat the edge pixel colour accross the extra 40mm so it blends with the original better. I realise this wont be fool proof... but all I would be hoping to do is eliminate there being a hard white edge where the banner wraps around. The other solution at the moment is to print the banner slightly oversized so some of the image wraps around.. but you will become stuck when you get an images who's length is 10x its width or so.. so adding 10mm to the width would add 100mm to the length & loose important information around the back. I can do a crude drawing of what I mean if it is required

Comment on #6 - This should all be able to be handled with PrepEdge Pro
