RIP update for version7.3.2
ONYX RIP Update for Version 7.3.2

To our valued customers and partners:

There is a new Version 7.3.2 RIP update available for immediate download. This update is focused on increasing overall RIP speed and resolving a number of postscript file processing issues.

The RIP speed optimization improves file processing time by an average of 10–15% and up to 50% on some files. In addition, this updates addresses a number of file processing issues including files with multiple transparency effects implemented as alpha masks or in conjunction with named spot colors. This means you don’t need to convert files to TIFF before sending them to the RIP, which will save you valuable production time.

In order to improve your file processing time and to ensure that you minimize any issues with complex files, please download and install this new update.

Installed it today, and the results look very good!
Until now the shadow/transparent bug is gone, sofar i'm very positive about it

Regards,

Henry

RE: RIP update for version7.3.2
I installed it, and I am not sure that I did it right. I extracted the files into the Onyx directory and ran it. Could you possibly take a screenshot of your files, and how it is supposed to look? I was running 7.3.28 for the OnyxDLL.dll file, and now it is showing up as 7.3.0. Not sure if that is right.
Thanks,
Jon

RE: RIP update for version7.3.2
Before this was released for testing I had a PDF for a vehicle wrap that was an all vector design, and 2 of the panels that had the more complex part of the design in it took nearly 4 hours to RIP. I have no idea why it would take that long, but I had Onyx run the same file through this update they were doing internal testing with and it took roughly 4 minutes.

I was excited to get a build of it to test. It has been a very wonderful update on my end and I too am very positive about it.

Here's the download and release notes:

If you extracted it in the Onyx dir. then it should be oke, it takes just seconds to update.
Not sure what you mean with the DLL file though.

Henry

RE: RIP update for version7.3.2
My image transparency and drop shadow issue in PDFs is still not fixed.

Very irritating... having to flatten everything... grrr...

I've tested with "FIXIMGTRANS" checked and unchecked... "FIXSPOTTRANS" checked and unchecked...

Still getting boxing around items in PDFs.

?!??!?!Cry

Are you going out to PDF v1.7?
I've noticed that when I go to v1.3, I still get boxes. But out to v1.7, the boxes go away.... BUT.... I am getting RIP errors on some of the v1.7 files.

These are customer provided files -- looks like v1.4.

I just got them to print with no boxing... apparently they have RGB and CMYK elements mixed in. When I print with all profiles off there is no boxing, but the images look really bad (lots of black dots -- shading with black?). I found that if I send these particular files to print with CYMK input profiles off, but leave the RGB input profiles on they have no boxing....

Something new everyday...

RE: RIP update for version7.3.2
Ah ha, that is very interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I am having these problems.

Yes, when you turn off the ICC profiles, it will shade using black ink only. I have found my colors to be more vibrant when doing this, but as soon as it starts to shade with black, things look bad.

I wonder why you got no boxes when CMYK inputs were off. Do you get the same results if you do the opposite and leave RGB inputs off, but CMYK on?

Boxes with CMYK on, RGB off.

Tried turning off spot color replacement... eh... it worked one way and that's the way they are printing.

RE: RIP update for version7.3.2
Previously when i got the shadow box problem my solution was, open the file in Adobe Acrobat Pro and save via preflight as Pdf X3 (coated Fogra39 in my case)
And to be shure, set the Rendering intend the same for vector and images.
You might want to give it a try, in my case it solved the problems

Goodluck with it!

Henry

Usually when it happens I bounce it back to our in house designer and he does something to the file. He always says that he is going to flatten it, but I don't know if he does it in Acrobat or Illustrator or some other Adobe suite program. It works after that, but the colors will sometimes shift (no more spot colors...).

This job had so many files that I wanted to find an in-RIP solution so we didn't have to spend the time flattening the files.
