Rotating tif in preflight
Why is it that every other kind of file will rotate in the preview with no problem, but tiffs want to write over their source file?

Is there a setting I can change?

RE: Rotating tif in preflight
I thought that you could rename it when you rotated it?

Yes, one can rename it but why is it such a chore to rotate a tiff? Preflight doesn't need to rewrite anything else to rotate it...

I believe that it does this because unlike postscript files, when rotating (and I believe only when rotating) a raster image the actual source file is being altered. Postscript files can be sized, rotated, and tweaked within preflight, but the source data is still intact. A set of instructions are stored telling the RIP what changes to apply ontop of the source data. I liken it to changing your clothes to alter your appearance. Your physical body is never touched in the process, just the layers of clothing you put on top of it. That's why you can still click "Original PS Data" in preflight to get you back to square one.

Does that make sense?

Yes. This is what I was assuming... but it still seems odd. Preflight still makes a .ONX file, it seems like it should be able to rotate the preview. RIP Queue can rotate the file on the fly after it ripped when it does the print layout. Just seems odd. It is the one feature of Wasatch that I prefer over ONYX. (Ok, maybe not just one feature, but a short list...)

RE: Rotating tif in preflight
When viewing bitmaps in preflight, you are not seeing a preview, it is the actual file. This is why you can zoom in to pixel level with these formats. Given this, it is hardly suprising that they have to be rotated in the way they do but I do find the process a little slow sometimes.
Also, when rotation is complete, why do we have to close the dialogue manually??? This should close itself surely.

Regards
Kevin
