Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100

Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
Has anyone else experienced this problem. Printing and reading profile swatches in Media Manager to Z6100. Using intenal Spectro for readings. The readings are coming into the profiling software incorrectly - the actual read data is not matching up with the expected data patches. Out of order, or dropping readings. Onyx gives no help on this without service contract.
This is inconsistent from printer to printer, we have 4 printers, some read fine, others it happens some or all the time. Checked network and printer configs and they are all identical on all machines.
This is frustrating as I am unable to read in valid profile readings to generate ICC profiles.

That sounds frustrating...

We have a number of Z6100 users on the forum, hopefully one of them will chime in.

Yes they do this - I found that keeping the firmware up to date helps but doesn't give a complete resolution. Also make sure you are justifying left and using the hexagon patches.

The on-board spectro is an Xrite i-one - the normal standalone versions also give odd readings to Onyx so for me there is something flaky with the i one driver in Onyx, rather than with the z6100 itself.

Anyone who has used one of these will have seen linearisations on visibly smooth grads appear in Onyx like a representation of the Rockies!

I've spoken to many in Onyx re this device & never get a satisfactory answer. I think they know it's a poor implementation.

RE: Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
Are you seeing this even on the profile linearizations, or just when you are profiling?
I've seen what Hotspur is talking about - the mountainous looking gradients... but it's never really affected my printouts TOO much, other than some unsatisfactory gradations.

RE: Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
We have seen inconsistency between our printers also and we have discontinued the use of internal eyeOnes because of this.
We printed the swatch on 6 printers and 2 out of those came out way out and after the calibration they started printing yellowish.
Hp swears the eyeOne is protected by a lid and there is no way it gets aerosols on the lens but who knows?

Personally I would rather use the same device to recalibrate all my machines rather than have a separate one for each unit.

Wow - sounds like something is really wrong there. I have three Z's, and I run the internal calibrations every day, and I've never had problems like what you are referring to. My heart goes out to you, because it is so much easier with the internal units, in my opinion.

RE: Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
Well... yes and no.
We do not use direct TCP/IP printing due to the large amount of printers and users.
We use a centralized Spool Server and this is a problem because the built in eyeOne can only be used via TCP/IP so you have to switch back and forth...

RE: Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
It's been a few months since this question was asked and I thought I'd see if anyone had gained any knowledge since.

I've had my Z6100 a few weeks now, so I'm not real experienced with it, but I am having the same problems the original poster spoke of when trying to build an ICC profile. Readings returned from the onboard i1 don't match up with the patches correctly. I think I was able to get okay results when I just did a "standard" patch layout (900 or so patches I think), but when I tried an "Extreme" and an "Ultra" patch layout it started mixing up the patch data.

I've had some spikey readings when doing recalibrations as well.

The printer is upgraded to the latest firmware (10.0.3) and I'm using ProductionHouse v7.3.2. I'm using hexagon patches and making sure that the printer is set up to print aligned left, but are there any others things I should try?

Has anyone who has had the problem found a solution?

Thanks.

RE: Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
Do you mean something like this ?:

I had it on our Z6100 one year long since installation, and tested everything.

The last thing was replacing the internal iOne, and this was the solution !!!!!

It was the internal iOne !

Good luck !

RE: Swatch Readings transferred wrong-Z6100
Yes, exactly like that.

Thanks for your reply. I hadn't gotten around to checking with HP to do a service call. I'll look into getting the i1 replaced and hopefully that will fix it for me as well.

thanks again for sharing your solution.
